Jakarta, December 1, 2024 – Yayasan Dokter Peduli or doctorSHARE has been present for 15 years in providing health services for underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas in Indonesia. Since 19 November 2009, doctorSHARE’s Founder, dr. Lie Dharmawan and the doctorSHARE team have focused on providing access to holistic health services and sustainable innovative programs based on the spirit of volunteerism.

Chairman of the Board of Dokter Peduli Foundation, Tutuk Utomo Nuradhy said, “As an archipelago, Indonesia has challenges in providing access to quality integrated health services that can be enjoyed by all levels of society to remote areas or islands. During its service, doctorSHARE sees the need for continuous innovation and involvement from all parties for the provision of proper health services”, said Tutuk.

According to the Indonesian Health Survey 2023 conducted by the Indonesian Ministry of Health, access to health facilities in Indonesia is still uneven. Many Indonesians find it difficult to access health facilities such as hospitals and health centers. As many as 62.8% of Indonesians said that access to health services in hospitals is categorized as difficult and very difficult. Furthermore, if we look at community access to services at primary health facilities such as Puskesmas, there are still 50.2% of people who find it difficult and very difficult.

RSA dr. Lie Dharmawan III (Putra Tomia) Introduced

On this occasion, doctorSHARE also introduced its newest Floating Hospital (RSA) unit, RSA dr. Lie Dharmawan III (Putra Tomia). This ship is doctorSHARE’s third RSA unit, after RSA Nusa Waluya II and RSA dr. Lie Dharmawan II (Bahenol II). RSA dr. Lie Dharmawan III (Putra Tomia) was introduced on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Batavia Marina, Sunda Kelapa.

RSA dr. Lie Dharmawan III (Putra Tomia) is equivalent to a Type D land hospital. The phinisi-type ship is equipped with electrocardiogram (ECG), ultrasonography (USG), laboratory, operating room, resuscitation room, and patient examination room facilities. The Hospital Ship is planned to serve the community in the Kutai Kartanegara, West Kutai, and East Kutai regions by 2025.

“We see that the geographical challenges in East Kalimantan are so great that access to health services is still uneven, especially outside urban areas. We chose villages along the Mahakam river and other rivers in East Kutai, West Kutai, and Kutai Kartanegara as the first location of RSA dr. Lie Dharmawan III (Putra Tomia) medical services in the hope of helping the local government in providing access to health services there,” said Tutuk.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2022, the number of doctors in East Kalimantan amounted to 2,882 people, but 65.82% of doctors are still concentrated in urban areas, namely in Balikpapan, Samarinda, and Bontang. Likewise, according to the East Kalimantan Health Office in 2023, there are 803 specialist doctors, but 70.48% of specialist doctors are centered in Balikpapan, Samarinda, and Bontang.

Based on Presidential Regulation No. 59 of 2017, the opportunity to develop regions in accordance with the SDGs can be done through coordination between local governments, academics, the private sector, philanthropy, civil society, and the media.

Chairman of the Advisory Board of Yayasan Dokter Peduli, Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly said that doctorSHARE positions itself as a government partner in efforts to equalize access to health. “We always support the government’s efforts to bring equitable access to health to remote areas of the country. Of course we are very grateful to all parties, because of the support from the government, partners, and volunteers that make our program possible,” said Yasonna during the 15th anniversary of doctorSHARE.
